Your host
Hi I am Nicki, I help people learn how to grow their own healthy organic food in their own backyard.
I’ve been growing food for most of my life, from containers on apartment balconies to an array of raised beds and containers in rental properties and now our own place where we are converting the garden to be 99% edible (if not edible, functional).
Our gardens have been featured in Gardening Australia Magazine and Humans who grow food.
Join me on a quest to grow all things edible.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING
I’ve put off establishing a veggie patch due to renting, terrible soil quality, not enough time…any excuse really. This community is so helpful and gives me a way to start out using a structured approach learning from others as I go along. Loving the growers challenge in particular, as it’s things I wouldn’t think of growing, but it’s given me somewhere to start which was the biggest issue for me. Thea
I love the community Nicki has created. It was very exciting when I received the seeds for the challenges. And her tips and hints throughout the season has been very appreciated!
I am so happy with what I’m learning from Nicki. I’ve always done a bit of gardening but so much I didn’t know, especially about soil! I wouldn’t call myself a green thumb by any means, but the improvements are certainly there! Lindy
If you’re passionate about the food you put into your families mouths, then it’s time to get growing your own delicious food!
Frequently Asked Questions
What location/climate is this best suited for?
As I am based in Australia I will be focusing on growing in the southern hemisphere. Whilst I live in a sub-tropical climate and warm/humid climates are my specialty – I also provide relevant information for all climate zones within Australia.
What is different from the membership vs the free content available on your website/YouTube?
The best stuff is saved for the membership, the free content just scratches the surface. The membership has more step by step systems and processes, cheatsheets, guides, video tutorials and overall guidance. You’ll get real time feedback.
You also get access to me to ask specific questions and help troubleshoot any issues you may have.
Do you prescribe to specific gardening techniques?
I take pieces from an array of different methods to find a way that suits our needs and lifestyle – so within the membership you’ll get a taste of it all.
I cover concepts from a wide array of modalities and inside you will find that companion planting, permaculture, biodynamics, moon planting, intensive gardening, crop rotation, square foot gardening, no dig garden methods, aquaculture are all intertwined into my methods.
Do I need a lot of space to grow my own food?
My system of growing can be done in 4 square metres of growing space. You can also easily grow things in pots and containers (it was our primary way of growing things for 2 decades while we rented) so I’ll always be covering alternatives for small spaces.
Is this for organic growers?
Yes! However there is always a but, in some instances (particularly in aquaponics) it’s hard to get things that are ‘certified’ organic.
What kind of topics should I expect you to cover in the future?
This will be entirely community driven, I regularly put out to vote on topics and that drives the pipeline of topics. The focus will always be on growing your own food and things associated with that.
Is this good for newbies?
Yes! The membership will include a bunch of info for newbies but it’s also perfect for those who already grow food and want a bit of motivation or general support when it comes to troubleshooting problems.
I rent will this be suitable for me?
We rented for 2 decades and always had food to harvest, I will give loads of tips on ways to get around the landlord issues.
I have a black thumb will this be suitable for me?
Gardening is a learned skill! So yes you can turn that black thumb green with assistance from the membership.
